What is the PGEU? The Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) is an international non-profit association (A.I.S.B.L - Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif) under Belgian law.
The Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) is the European association representing community pharmacists. PGEU’s members are the national associations and professional bodies of community pharmacists in 30 European countries including EU Member States, EU candidate countries and EFTA members.
PGEU's Members are associations from EU Member States, while PGEU's Observer Members are organisations from non-EU European countries.
Through its members, PGEU represents around 400,000 community pharmacists contributing to the health of over 500 million people throughout Europe.
What does the PGEU do? The PGEU lobbies at all levels of the EU. The Executive Committee and the Secretary General maintain regular contacts with the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) and the Economic and Social Committee. Although the most frequent contact is with DG Enterprise, DG SANCO and DG Internal Market of the European Commission, PGEU is open to constructive relations with other parties.
PGEU studies preliminary drafts of directives and is consulted by the European Commission on draft decisions which directly or indirectly relate to the community pharmacist.
The PGEU's main objective is to see the role of the pharmacist as a fully-fledged "health professional" recognised at every level and to help safeguard the health of all the citizens of the European Union.
